Our aim is to deepen general knowledge about the social reality in our environment by working with and supporting social and health care institutions and cultural and sports facilities. As shopping center managers, it goes without saying that we take the social issues facing the communities in which we operate seriously. We regularly organize events in the community, often with a cultural or environmental focus, which are aimed directly at specific groups such as children or senior citizens. We work together with non-profit social associations. Our company has a system in place that enables our employees to volunteer in the community; the company provides all employees with a certain amount of time for this purpose. Safety & Health

At Sonae Sierra, we are committed to implementing a zero-risk culture and strive to ensure that the health of our customers is never compromised. Our ongoing efforts in this regard, with the help of the Personae project, have led us to promote safe behavior and risk reduction in our shopping centers and on our construction sites—which has already proven to be very effective. These strategies include Safety Prevention Observation (SPO), a form of behavioral audit designed to identify safety issues in the workplace. In addition to SPO, we offer our employees, tenants, and business partners in all countries where we operate regular specialist courses in occupational safety and health, and we answer questions from these customers at monthly occupational safety and health meetings on site. We also believe that visitors to our shopping centers should be exposed to as few health and safety risks as possible. Given the large number of visitors we receive, we attach great importance to implementing the strictest emergency plans, which we also rehearse with emergency scenarios. Sonae Sierra’s environmental protection is based on the implementation of our Environmental Management System (EMS), which has been certified according to the ISO 14001 standard. The EMS covers all of Sonae Sierra’s business activities and applies in all countries where the company operates. It aims to increase eco-efficiency and promotes awareness of the need to limit the significant environmental impacts of its business in accordance with the principles set out in our environmental policy.
